Uses of door blinds

September 2, 2011 – Blinds are made for keeping privacy and managing sunlight. While the most models of blinds are made for windows, there are designs made for doors that have openings as well. If you have a French door or a large patio glass door then you most likely need to cover it up. In this article we will look at the various types of blinds that you can buy for your doors.

Judging from the position of the blades or vanes, there are two types of blinds: vertical and horizontal. If you want to just cover up a single door such as a French door then horizontal will do the job. If you need to cover double doors or a large sliding door then vertical blinds are best suited for this.

Someone might have thought about installing traditional window blinds on their doors. This is a bad idea. The reason for this is that regular blinds do not have the necessary hold downs to remain stationary even when moved. These blinds would be swinging all the time when the door is used. If you’re lucky they would only twist or bend a little. However most would break off the day they were bought.

This is why manufacturers offer blinds specifically made for doors. These designs have hold downs that keep them in place sideways. There are many such door blinds. If you do a simple online search you will see that there are Roman blinds, drape-type blinds, roller blinds and venetian blinds. You can also select blinds made from wood, aluminum, fabric or vinyl. Vertical blinds can be only had in vinyl or coated fabric.

Look around different blinds stores to get an idea for how your door would look with blinds mounted. Getting blinds can help you maintain privacy and create a nice mood by filtering or controlling sunlight.
