The Health Benefits Of Whiskey

June 24, 2011 – Whiskey and celebrations go together hand in hand. When celebrating a special occasion, it is customary to have a toast in honor of the celebration. Alcohol is often consumed when someone is depressed as a way of relaxing and settling in with their thoughts and during times of stress as a way to wind down. Consuming alcohol has been a top discussion among some who associate the use of alcohol as damaging to health or leading cause of certain diseases. While the issue of alcohol consumption leading to health problems may be a legitimate claim, there are many benefits that are also associated with drinking alcoholic beverages.

Few people know the beneficial properties of whiskey that has been found in extensive studies. Research has shown in laboratory testing that alcoholic beverages may contain properties essential in delaying certain cancers. Certain studies have shown that when a glass of alcohol is drank on a daily basis, it could provide protection against cancer. Similar to the antioxidant benefits provided by consuming a glass of red wine, whiskey also may be beneficial for additional antioxidants.

The human body is prone to toxin filled blood vessels which can lead to vascular and heart problems. The antioxidants in whiskey may help to rid the body of these unhealthy toxins. Drinking alcohol in moderation may help to unclog blood vessels and lead to a healthier heart due to free flowing blood.

For centuries the way to get rid of a nasty cough, was to consume a shot of alcohol. A combination of whiskey and honey is beneficial in soothing a sore and itchy throat within minutes. When used in moderation consuming  a shot or two of whiskey will help sooth a painful throat, ease coughing and may help to reduce the amount of unhealthy toxins in the blood stream.
